Shirley Jeannette Follett

Shirley was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Perry Hazard and Bernice Dow Smith. She met and married Richard Follett while at Ohio State University. They moved to Chehalis, Wash., and started raising a family. Always an active person, she took the family on extended backpack trips mostly on the Olympic Peninsula and enjoyed fishing and working on the family tree farms.

In 1972, the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska. Shirley continued to hike, play tennis and play bridge. She won many trophies playing at the local bridge club. She made many wonderful friends through bridge and through the ChangePoint widow's group. Always a practical person, she had her own table saw and built bookcases and cabinets for her house.

After the children were raised, she went to work for the family business, Follett and Associates, capably managing the office and generating real estate appraisal reports. She continued to work there until she was 85. In her late 80s she was still taking care of her house and doing much of her own yard work until Eric took her chainsaw away. A year ago, she moved to Seattle, Wash., and then back to Chehalis, to be close to her children living in the area.

She is predeceased by Richard Follett, her husband of 60 years. She is survived by her four children: Eric (Jill) Follett; Linda (Norm) Pfaff; Chris (Bill) Hill; and Vince (Micaela) Follett. She had 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Shirley had a kind and gentle spirit and will be greatly missed.

No services are planned.
