Stephen "Steve" Douglas Lackie, age 74, passed away peacefully on Aug. 26, 2024, due to a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Steve was the youngest of three sons born to George LeRoy and Marie (Swanson) Lackie on July 24, 1950, in Mount Pleasant, Mich. He was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and received his private pilot's license in1973.
He moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in October 1975, to pursue his career in printing, love for nature and photography. He met his wife of 47 years, Connie (Boepple) Lackie, through Adventist Contact. Their family was complete in August 1978, when they were blessed with a daughter, Maria (Lackie) Large.
Steve worked as the head pressman for Anchorage Printing Company from October 1975 through May 1987, printing weekly newspapers for many remote locations around Alaska. Steve took time off to live his dream of building a cabin in a remote location north of Talkeetna, Alaska. After completing the project with the help of his good friend Rob Porch, he pursued a career in construction and residential maintenance. He worked for Nielsen for nearly 20 years before opening Steve's Residential Maintenance. He retired June 2020 to devote more time to his photography. He is an award-winning photographer best known for his cover photos on Sport Afield, Hunt, Fishing World, Northwest Living, Creation Magazines, Gleaner, Pacific Recorder and photos in the Alaska Magazine, Mile Post and Petersen Hunting. Steve loved to travel and take photos from around the world.
He was a member of the Hillside O'Malley Seventh-day Adventist Church and served as Head Deacon for approximately 10 years. In addition to his love of photography, he enjoys sharing his love for Jesus, serving his church, traveling, beekeeping, scuba diving, camping, fishing, cooking and game nights with his family.
