Our dear Steven F. Groeneveld passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2022, at home in Waddell, Ariz. He was 65.
Steve was born in Harvey, Ill., in 1957. His family moved to Alaska in 1965, first to Fairbanks and then settling in Anchorage, where Steve attended school, graduating from West High in 1975.
Steve enlisted in the Air Force, and then joined the FAA as a civilian air traffic controller in Alaska. He started his career at Farewell, working at Sitka, Juneau, Cold Bay, Dillingham and finally in Kenai, retiring in 2007.
In 1979, Steve married Elaine Forgie, and together they had two daughters: Stephanie and Stacey. They moved to Nikiski, Alaska, building a home on Daniel's Lake. Elaine passed in 2010.
Steve married Debra Chapman Cloutier in 2011, and they settled for good in Waddell. Steve was an active member of Calvary Chapel 14:6. He had a quick wit and a wry sense of humor. He had a keen ear for music and enjoyed gathering with family and friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine; his mother, Joyce Eischen; and brother-in-law, Kenneth McKenzie Bullock.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie; daughter, Stephanie of Oregon; daughter, Stacey and husband Chris Dalman of Washington; father, John and stepmother Helen of Kenai; brother, Michael and wife Candace of Anchorage; sister, Leah and husband John Brown of Fairbanks; sister, Melissa McKenzie of Eagle River; stepfather, Norman Eischen and wife Virginia of Sterling; stepson, John Forgie and wife Stephanie and grandchildren Colton, Harris and Maggie of Nevada; stepdaughter, Chelsea and husband Carl Jemison Jr. and grandsons Jayden Palmer and Chase Jemison; and stepson, Michael Cloutier, all of Arizona; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Steve will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
