Susan Walker

Apr 27, 1949 -

Jan 24, 2020

Susan May Walker, "Suzy," died peacefully after a long battle with lupus, surrounded by her family on Jan. 24, 2020. She was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, on April 27, 1949, to Ed and Frances Walker. After graduating from Valdez High School in 1967, she attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks and later worked as a flight attendant for Wein Airlines, customer service for the Alaska Marine Highway System and on the construction of the trans-Alaska pipeline.

Suzy was a loving mom to her children, though not always in a traditional sense, but one who taught them to face life's problems head on, always with a dose of humor. She will always be remembered for selflessly undergoing a bone marrow transplant when her sister Kath was diagnosed with leukemia, and for shaving her head to support Kath when she lost her hair. Suzy was very creative and loved great books, old westerns, football and all of her pets.

She is survived by her children, Jason Syzmanski, Brent Byrne, Trevor Walker and Felissia Welch; 15 grandchildren; and brothers, Bob Walker and Bill Walker. She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Kathleen Walker Williams.

A family service will be held this spring.
