Thomas Holger Dreyer of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on Sept. 27, 2020, at the age of 68. After 7 years battling cancer, Tom died peacefully with his beloved wife, Beth, and family by his side.
Tom was born in Seattle, Wash., on Sept. 4, 1952, to father Edwin Holger Dreyer and mother Elaine Jeanette Dreyer. Tom was the third of five brothers: Bob, Bill (deceased), Ken and Dave. The family moved to Anchorage in 1965, and lived in Roger's Park. Tom graduated in 1970 from East Anchorage High School. After graduating high school Tom traveled to Europe with his best friend Tom Elliot.
Tom married his first wife, Vicky Lynn Hagemeyer, in 1978. Tom and Vicky had two children, Erik and Loren, raising them in West Anchorage. The family enjoyed traveling and the outdoors, including hiking up Flattop and Bird Ridge, biking around Powerline Pass and downhill skiing at Alyeska. Sadly, Vicky passed away in 2002.
Tom earned his Professional Land Surveyor license and began a career in surveying in the early 1980s. Tom worked side-by-side with his four brothers at Lantech Surveyors from 1978-2006 on various projects across the state of Alaska, and later founded S4 Development Group. Throughout his career he developed subdivisions for Anchorage citizens to enjoy and call home, including Sahalee, Northpointe Bluff, Captain Cook Estates and countless more, helping Anchorage grow into the modern city it is now.
He was a regular at yoga studios around town, gave big tips to baristas who made him his soy cappuccinos, loved flying down south edge early morning on a bluebird day and showed kindness and a smile to strangers that crossed his path. Tom met his second wife, Beth Schuerman, in 2010, through a mutual interest in yoga and enjoyed 10 years of love and adventure. Tom and Beth traveled the world, climbed mountains and lived an exciting fun-filled life.
Tom was preceded in death by his older brother, Bill; his first wife, Vicky; and his parents. He is survived by his second wife, Beth Schuerman; three brothers, Bob, Ken and Dave; sisters-in-law, Nancy and Kim; his two sons, Erik and Loren; his two daughters-in-law, Diana and Lydia; his two stepchildren, Richelle and Trevor; and his four grandchildren, Isabella, Sofia, Lily and Logan.
As a nod to Tom, look up at the stars and take in the wonderment of being alive and/or take some time to practice the blissful art of doing nothing. A celebration of life for Tom will be held in Girdwood, Alaska, when safe to do so. To receive updates on Tom's memorial, or to communicate with his family, please email tomdreyer.memorial@gmail.com.
