William Owen

Bill was born in Newport News, Va., son of Merrill R. and Sheila A. Owen of Madison, Wis. He graduated from Service High School in 1973, and from the University of Hawaii in 1977. Bill served in the U.S. Army as an officer from 1977-1983, and taught as a librarian at Government Hill Elementary School from 1996-2015. The kids called him Mr. O.

He loved to read and traveled widely to places like India, South Africa, Antarctica, Israel, Greece, Thailand, England and Ireland. His quirky presence and views will be missed by family and friends.

He was the fourth born of eight children. He is survived by brothers, John and Patrick; and sisters, Sheila and Elisabeth.
