Longtime Alaska and Nikiski resident William F. "Bill" Warren, 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, at home of heart failure with his wife beside him.
At his request, no public services are planned. The family will hold a private memorial service at home.
Bill was born on May 20, 1941, in Hawthorne, Calif., to Wesley and Betty Warren. The family moved to Alaska in 1951. As Bill and his sister Linda grew up in Alaska, they had to chop wood and pack water. His family moved around quite a bit due to work, from Fairbanks to Ketchikan and eventually settling in Kenai back in the 1950-60s. He finished high school in Anchorage prior to joining the Local 367 Plumber and Pipefitters Union.
He worked in numerous communities throughout Alaska. He served on the HEA Board of Directors in Kenai. He also joined the National Rifle Association.
Bill traveled quite extensively, including Australia, Bangkok, Philippines, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Mexico.
He had many friends in Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 44 1/2 years and sobriety has been good to him, giving him the opportunity to tell many drunk law stories. He was also a board member at Alcoholics Anonymous.
His family wrote: "Bill was well liked. He enjoyed putting on a good argument on Sound Off on KSRM 920 AM radio. He also built a dory boat for the family's fishing lifestyle. He also built many homes on his properties and loved country music, especially Emmy Lou Harris. Bill was devoted to work, family, friends and the truth. He would always tell his daughter, Darlene, that he loved her."
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ann Elizabeth Warren; and his best friend, Gene Shaeffer.
He is survived by his wife, Billie (Cadzow) Warren of Nikiski; daughter, Darlene Warren of North Carolina; sons, Wesley of Anchorage and William of Nikiski; grandchildren, Stehnner and Zaree Warren of Henderson, Nev., William IV, Ava, Jada and Harold Warren all of Nikiski; stepchildren, Jackie Ward Carroll of Ft.
