Winburn Troy Prather

Feb 5, 1928 -

Apr 10, 2020

Winburn Troy Prather was born to Eugene and Jessie Prather in Mobeetie, Texas, on Feb. 5, 1928. He left this earth to rejoin his loved ones in heaven on April 10, 2020. "Grandpop" led a full and happy life filled with many friends and more family than any one man should be blessed with.

Troy grew up farming in Texas before beginning a career in road construction, mainly paving in New Mexico. He moved his family to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1969, eventually joining Operating Engineers Local 302. He retired in 1985. Throughout Alaska, many of the streets, highways and airport runways were paved by our dad.

"Dear Ole Dad" lived to play country music whether he was at the Buckaroo, the VFW, in Willow with "The Vanliners" or at his friend's house, he never missed an opportunity to entertain. Although he could play just about any instrument, the fiddle was his favorite.

Troy is survived by his spouse, Wanda; brother, Stanley Prather; sister, Elwanda Hutson; sons, Pete Prather (Kristine) and Shonn Barker; daughters, Barbara Vanlandingham, Gail Downs, Nancy Fewell, Stephanie Lukes, Tamy Amberg (Bobby) and Kristal Stewart (Josh); and many grandkids and great-grandkids, and a great-great-grandkid.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Yvonne Campbell; and ex-wife, Jessie Prather.
