Jul 20, 2020

Marvin Shellie Beasley joined his beloved wife Elizabeth on July 20, 2020, at 100 years of age. He was born in Tacoma, Wash., and entered the Navy as his first career. He made 54 trips from Seattle to Alaska on his ship the USS Roustabout delivering liquid fuel and whatever else the war effort needed.

After the war he switched from Chief Boatswain's Mate to Chief Journalist - the first one in the U.S. Navy - serving tours in London, England; Naples, Italy; and Tokyo, Japan. In Japan he managed a military radio station for the Far East Network and personally hosted a radio show "Man About Town." After the war he got his master's degree in electrical engineering. He worked as a defense contractor for the rest of his career. He was deeply involved in developing, installing and testing fire control systems for nuclear weapons.

He is survived by daughters, Stephanie Henrich and Shellie Brown; son, Thomas Beasley; sister, Betty Burhe; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by Elizabeth, his wife of 64 years; and his son, Laurence Beasley. His last 15 years were spent with Mike and Stephanie Henrich enjoying his love of genealogy and furthering his knowledge in technical areas.

Later this year we will be spreading Marvin's ashes in Lake Michigan. Thank you to all the "angels" of Providence Hospice for their amazing kindness and support.
