Aug 25, 2020

Peter Ettinger, age 59, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away suddenly on Aug. 25, 2020, as a result of a pedestrian accident. He was the eldest son of Doreen (Currie) and Harold Ettinger. He was born on July 25, 1961, in Glace Bay, Cape Breton. He is survived by his mother; daughter, Kieran of Anchorage; siblings, Maryann of Louisiana, Andrew of Vancouver, and Jonathan (Dionne) of Amherst; and niece, Isabelle of Amherst.

Music was the thread that wove its way through Peter's life. From his first musical, Oliver, in Amherst as a child, to many years touring with his many bands across Canada, before settling in Vancouver and then Anchorage, where he enjoyed many years performing at Koots. He performed in front of tens of thousands of people and we have heard many of you.

A new incredible light in his life arrived in 2010: Kieran. Kieran's accomplishments in school, martial arts and a love of reading were all a source of great pride for Peter. Being a great dad was important to him. He would tell us how incredible Kieran was and how he loved to watch her grow. He loved every minute of it! He loved hockey, and his love for the Philadelphia Flyers required him to grow a thick skin while hanging out with friends. Golf came later, and we enjoyed hearing of his successes along with his rather muted reports of tougher rounds. It goes without saying Peter enjoyed conversation.

We want to thank his extended family in Anchorage, not only Korandin, Karin and Bill, but also his friends who held him close. Sal and Bart we can not thank you enough for your support and love for Peter. Our lives will never be the same without him, but we're eternally grateful for the time we had. We will hold a celebration of life for Peter in Anchorage, Vancouver and Amherst at a later date. A GoFundMe page has been setup to provide funds for his daughter Kieran and can be found here: http://bit.ly/kieranjoy.
