Michael Gregory "Greg" Oczkus

What is there to say about a man who was sincerely loved and who loved greatly? Greg's many friends have stories about his adventures as an entrepreneur. He invested time and money in a junk yard, a bingo hall, electric company and gold mine, all of which had mixed results. His highest and best use was an an attorney.
Many of his friends started as clients. They came back numerous times for his counsel. Greg was always willing to take on a new case provided he had been paid for the prior one. He always knew who owed him money.
After he tried to retire, he and his wife, Jane, traveled extensively. Greg loved to interact with and question the local people about their lives. Often this was done without approval of the tours guides or, in some cases, the security guards. When at home on Anchorage, Alaska, or Maui, Hawaii, he would take an afternoon stroll and pick up garbage. This was his way of making a contribution to his neighborhood. Greg also enjoyed reading, listening to books on tape and playing bridge.
Greg was blunt, sometimes gruff, but was always entertaining. He had a generous heart and a soft interior. Greg was the eldest sibling in his family and was considered to be a role model. Jane and son Peter adored him and Greg's love for them was always apparent, as was his love for the Golden State Warriors and the Oakland Raiders.
Greg is survived by his wife, Jane Pettigrew; son, Peter Oczkus; three brothers, Brad, David and Mark Oczkus; sister, Lael Stock; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
