Donald Douglas Glen Osborne

Feb 23, 1934 -

Dec 6, 2020

Donald passed away in December, at the age of 86, at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, B.C., Canada, due to complications of kidney failure. As requested, his interred ashes will be buried beside his mother in Kamloops, B.C.

Don was born in Swan River to his parents Elsie (Martin) Osborne and Glen Osborne.

Don grew up in Bralorne, B.C., as his father got a job working as a shift boss in the historic Bralorne mines.

It was in Bralorne that Don met his future wife, Vivian McVetty; they were married in Vivian's hometown of Grand Prairie in 1956.

Donald went to work for Sears Canada in Powell River, Quesnel and Cranbrook, B.C., before moving to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1964. It is there that he went to work for General Foods rising to the position of General Manager of Alaskan Operations.

Donald was prolific both academically and in sports growing up. In his adult years, Donald was diligent and intent with a penchant for finance and business. He relished observing birds and animals, and he and Vivian were advocates for both.

His homes were graced with natural artwork and externally adorned with prolific flowers and beautifully set. His heart never left the natural beauty of Bralorne and the Bridge River Valley. Donald spent large parts of his last six years on Pender Island, B.C., where he was instrumentally supportive of his younger sister Kathleen in her final years.

Uncle Donald outlived his sisters, Kathleen and Glenda; wife, Vivian; grandnephew, Ryan; his very best friend, John Bett; and many of his peers and friends.

Donald is survived by his niece, Diane Bigham; nephews, Mark, Matt and Dan Bigham, John and Dean Hagen; grandnephew, Braedon Bigham; and grandniece, Rachel Briton. Relatives of the Martin and Osborne families remain, as do his many friends in Alaska.
