Arlene Brey was born in Oneco, Conn., to Fred Karl and Emily (Brewin) Young. She graduated from Plainfield High School, class of 1954, and Bryant Business College in Providence, R.I. Arlene was a member of Oneco Methodist Church.
Arlene married her high school sweetheart, Philip "Pete" Brey, in 1955, and was a military wife of 23 years. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2015.
Arlene was the mother of five daughters, Jeannine Eastlick, Kathleen Weeks, Roberta Kenney, Paula Polsky and Tama Shooner; grandmother to Lawrence, Kyle, Justen, Rosalynn, Angela, Jarrod, Bree, Zachary, Kathryn, Cole and Kelly; and great-grandmother, to Kaci, Kyla, Mya, Emma, Ryan, Jaiden, Gracie, Taytum, Austin, Wyatt, Maddison, Ava, Zane, Benjamin, Lucas, Koralynn and Emberlyn.
Arlene was an Alaska resident since 1972. She was a bookkeeper since 1956, was employed with Ernst & Young and Deloitte & Touch, and owned Business Accounting Services since 1995.
The center of "Peaches" life was her family – they were her love and joy above all else, especially the grandchildren. They were all special to her. Monthly family birthday celebrations and annual family reunion "Peach Parties" were her happiest times. An only child herself, her large extended family of cousins was always deep seeded in her heart, even though they resided far away. Oneco was always "Home."
In her words: "I do try to be grateful for every day. God has certainly been good to me. My God isn't necessarily the one many around me espouse to, but I do accept my good fortune not as an expectation, but as a decoration to life's package. May He bless you as well."
She wreceded in death by her parents, Fred and Emily Young of Oneco; husband, Philip Brey; and granddaughter, Bree Kenney of Anchorage, Alaska.
Arlene has asked that, in lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to: Oneco Fire Department, C/O Peter Capobianco, P.O. Box 540, Oneco, CT 06373.
