Edith Knapp

Oct 14, 1925 -

Apr 7, 2021

Edith L. Knapp, 95, of Palmyra, Maine, ended her earthly journey on Wednesday, April 7, 2021. Edith was born on Oct. 14, 1925, in Perry, Maine, and was the daughter of Louis and Myra (Pottle) Lincoln.

Edith eventually took a job teaching in Yakutat, Alaska, where she met her future husband Lawrence "Larry" Knapp. Later Edith taught in Girdwood, Alaska, where she remained after her wedding. She had a reputation of being a strict yet caring teacher who expected each child to strive to reach their full potential, no matter their background.

In 1981, Larry and Edith retired and moved to Brooks, Maine, and continued there until Larry passed away in 1994. After becoming a widow, Edith sold the place in Brooks and had a house built in Palmyra to be closer to her family and was able to use her teaching skills to help homeschool her daughter's children. Much later as need required, Edith moved in with her daughter and son-in-law, enjoying the closeness for nearly six years.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Knapp; her parents, Louis and Myra Lincoln; brothers, Stephen, Ralph, Maynard and Raymond Lincon; and sister, Jean (Lincoln) Sprague. She is survived by her son, Louis Knapp and wife Sabrina of Fairbanks, Alaska; daughter, Winonah and husband Jonathan Sacks of Palmyra; grandchildren, Corbin and Benjamin Knapp of Fairbanks, Aaron Sacks of Washington, D.C., Marianne House and husband Kevin of Rideau Ferry, Ontario, David Sacks and wife Reema of Fort Worth, Texas, Susannah Li and husband Wai Lung of Poland Springs, Maine, Stephen Sacks and wife Mei Wa of Hartland, Maine, and Isaac Sacks of Augusta, Maine; and her great-grandchildren, Sam, Abigail, Lydia and Ezra House; Ian Li; Julian Sacks and Liam Sacks.

Edith was much loved and will be greatly missed. Memorial Services will be conducted later when family and friends can gather safely.
