Robert Weldon "Bob" Eidson

Robert "Bob" Weldon Eidson was born on May 8, 1941, in Seymour, Texas. Bob's family moved to the California Central Valley in the 1950s. Bob completed high school and went on to become a postal carrier in Fresno, Calif. In 1967, he moved with his young family to Alaska, living in Homer briefly with his mother and stepfather, Geneva and Lee Cole. Over the years he lived in Seldovia, Soldotna, Anchorage, Fairbanks and Wasilla, Alaska. Following a successful completion of the Academy, Bob became an Alaska State Trooper in 1968. Years later he left the Troopers to work on the Alaska North Slope as a dispatcher and EMT. In retirement, Bob moved to Oregon.

Bob led an active and adventurous life traveling around the United States and as far as Asia. He was a trained cold water diver and enjoyed warm water holidays in Hawaii where in 1991, he completed the Iron Man Triathlon. He was an avid reader and always learning. Bob made friends everywhere he went.

Bob is survived by his brother, Pete Cole; two sons, R. Lawrence Ballew and J. Charles Ballew; two grandsons; and a great-grandson.

He is best remembered as a helper and a problem solver, easy to get along with and loved by many.

He died of natural causes on April 18, 2021, at the age of 79 years. He will be missed as his passing has made the world a little less friendly. May he rest in peace.
