Trillave Louise Gates, 79, fondly known as Trill, passed away on April 16, 2021. Born on April 2, 1942, in Kansas City, Mo., Trill was lovingly welcomed into the home of Elizabeth and Charles H. Green Jr., in Higginsville, Mo.
A graduate of Higginsville High School, she received her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1964 from Lindenwood University in Saint Charles, Mo.
On June 27, 1964, she married Paul, the love of her life; she and Paul remained steadfastly devoted to each other for 57 years. The couple had two daughters, Trill Elise and Teresa.
Trill began her elementary school teaching career in 1964 in Higginsville, and then Lancaster, Mo., and Atlanta, Ga. In 1976, their family moved to Anchorage, Alaska. Following their arrival, she worked as a substitute teacher and Indian Education Tutor for the Anchorage School District. She then became a full-time classroom teacher at Rabbit Creek Elementary School. She later taught at Scenic Park Elementary School until her retirement in 1998. A passionate educator, Trill cared deeply for her students and colleagues.
Trill enjoyed a wide variety of activities, including fishing, golfing, quilting and knitting. She made and donated quilts to children in need and knitted many hats for those less fortunate. Trill was an active member of the Anchorage Women's Golf Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church "Piecemakers" Quilting Club, Bunco Group and Saturday Coffee Club.
Trill was an ever-caring mother who adored her daughters. She was always there to inspire and encourage them in their endeavors, whether it be softball games, swimming meets, running races, academics or family life. She was also a fun-loving and dedicated grandmother who delighted in spending time with her
grandchildren.
In addition to her graciousness and gentleness, her family and friends loved her adventurous spirit, quick wit and perfect comedic sense of timing.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; daughters, Trill Elise Schroeder and husband Rich of Anchorage, and Teresa Lou Dearborn and husband Eric of Eagle River, Alaska; grandchildren, Kennedy, Wyatt, Ryan, Olivia, Blake, Luke, Paul, Charles and Samantha; other relatives; and many friends. She is preceded in death by her brother, Charles H. Green III.
A celebration of Trill's life will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, consider supporting her love of children and books by making a donation in Trill's name to the Imagination Library, 3350 Commercial Drive, #104A, Anchorage, AK 99501, or by reading a favorite book to a child.
