Shelbey Kathleen Skondovitch

Shelbey Kathleen Skondovitch left this world on April 25, 2021, in Anchorage, Alaska. She was taken from us far too soon, in a crash when an oncoming driver crossed the median into her lane. Shelbey was born on Sept. 15, 1997, to her parents Leslye and Sidney Skondovitch. Early in life she faced health challenges and fought hard to survive, beating the odds, with the tireless help of Dr. Dion Roberts and the staff at Providence Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the support of ARC of Anchorage. She continued to be a fighter in life, with a love of hockey like her dad. She played youth hockey and lettered as a goalie in high school. She was greatly respected by her fellow hockey players, her family and her co-workers.

With a calming presence and joyful spirit, Shelbey would get excited about the little things in life. Selfless and sweet, she would always ask how you were doing. She had an easy laugh and loved to go on trips with her family, especially fishing and camping at Finger Lake. She also liked solo adventures, once going to Seattle by herself where she met her cousins and explored the city by bus. Another trip was to California, where she visited an aunt and enjoyed the Pacific Ocean, the L.A. Zoo, Hollywood and looking at all the fancy cars. Possibly her favorite part was going to the Kardashian store, where she met one of the Kardashians who was happy to hear Shelbey had come all the way from Alaska to their store. Shelbey beamed at this encounter.

Shelbey had been working diligently as a caregiver, saving up her money, and was days away from moving into her own new apartment in downtown Anchorage. Her life was cut far too short, but we know she will continue her adventures with those who went before her, including grandparents, Susan and Herman Wood, Alfred Skondovitch; and her beloved dog, Daisey. Shelbey is survived by her parents, Sidney and Leslye; brother, Mitchell; grandmother, Patti Skondovitch; godmother, Patsy Egan; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Donations can be made to the Anchorage Hockey Association in Shelbey's name, or to the GoFundMe page set up to help the family with expenses related to her passing. A Celebration of Life is planned for the summer.
