Charles Albert Gilmore, 81, passed away on May 14, 2021, at Bridle Trails Senior Care in Kirkland, Wash. Charles was born on July 15, 1939, in Shreveport, La. He met his wife, Justina, in Long Beach, Calif., later marrying on May 27, 1962, in Las Vegas, Nev. They moved to Alaska with their family in 1971, where they lived for 35 years before moving to the Seattle, Wash., area in 2006.
Charles graduated from La Salle High School in Olla, La. In his professional career, he served in the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration, where he was for over 40 years in progressively advancing roles, most notably a Regional Safety Manager, until he retired in 2013.
In his lifetime, Charles enjoyed camping, fishing, reading and watching sports, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers football fan. He was a member of the St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Cathedral, where he served as Starista, a church lay leader, and was the recipient of the Saint Herman Medallion Award.
He is survived by his daughters, Jill Gilmore and Ronda Blackburn; grandsons, Richard Blackburn and Ryan Blackburn; great-grandchildren, Veronica Blackburn and Ethan Blackburn; and many beloved nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his wife, Justina Gilmore; son, Timothy Gilmore; parents, William and Myrtle Bell Gilmore; sisters, Earnestean Gilmore and Glenda Whitten; and brother-in-law, Guy Whitten.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021, at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Cathedral, 401 Turpin Street in Anchorage, Alaska. The visitation will begin at 12 p.m., and the funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. The burial will be held at 3 p.m. at Angelus Cemetery, 440 East Klatt Road in Anchorage. Father Daniel Charles will be officiating.
