Darlene Jeanette "Jean" Daugherty

Feb 26, 1920 -

Jul 29, 2021

Longtime Anchorage, Alaska, resident Darlene Jeanette Daugherty "Jean" 101½ years old, died peacefully on July 29, 2021, while living at Aspen Creek Senior Center in Anchorage. Jean was born on Feb. 26, 1920, in Hutchinson, Kan., to Thomas Dennis Harr and Claudia Mae Harr.

In April 1962, Jean and her son David drove the Alcan Highway to move up from California. She called Tok, Delta Junction, Fairbanks, Tokotna and Anchorage home.

Jean enjoyed working as a waitress in numerous restaurants in California and Alaska. She had numerous stories to tell of her time waitressing at Star of the North Bakery & Restaurant on 2nd Avenue in Fairbanks during the pipeline days.

She was large-hearted and generous, and particularly enjoyed caring for children. Though only having one biological child of her own, Connie, she cared for several foster children over the years, including Didema, whom she was able to adopt. She also adopted both her sons, David and Thomas.

As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Jean took pleasure in sharing her faith about God's purpose of restoring the earth to a paradise where there will be no more sickness and death, which is stated in one of her favorite Bible scriptures, Revelation 21: 3, 4.

She was preceded in death by her two daughters, Connie Ott and Didema Nancy Daugherty. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Penny Daugherty of Anchorage and Thomas and Shawna Daugherty of Fairbanks; seven grandchildren, Jessica Barr, Shane Daugherty, Brandon Daugherty, Fauna Woolweaver, Chase Daugherty, Raven Daugherty and Swan Rogers; and seven great-grandchildren.

Jean will be missed by family and friends.
