Katherine Ruth Dabell age 92, passed away peacefully at home in Anchorage Alaska on Aug. 21, 2021, where she had lived with her daughter and family for the last two years of her life.
Katherine was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Parma, Idaho, a daughter of Ernest Arthur Bates and Mary Louise Musgrave Bates. She was raised in Rigby Idaho where she graduated from Rigby High School. She married David Randall Dabell on June 3, 1951, in Moscow, Idaho where Dave attended college. They lived in Rexburg, Idaho where she worked as an operator for the local telephone company before starting her family. They adopted two daughters, Kathy Lee in 1958 and Adriana Lyn in 1966. In 1968, they moved to Boise, Idaho where they would live and raise their family for the next 30 years together. When her children were grown, she worked part time at the Idaho State Tax Commission where she met some lifelong friends.
Katherine dedicated her life to the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed making clothes and blankets for her family and friends. She loved to play cards. Her favorites were bridge, pinochle and king's corner which she enjoyed playing with family and friends. She played on a bridge league in Boise for over forty years. Katherine had a great sense of humor. She loved a good joke and enjoyed telling them. Although sometimes she would start laughing so hard that she would never make it to the punchline. She always had a hot pot of coffee ready to share.
She enjoyed her annual adventures to Alaska to visit her daughter and taking bus tours across the United States with her sister LeOra.
Katherine was one of ten children. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Randall Dabell; a great grandson, Nicholas; parents, Ernest Arthur Bates, Mary Louise Musgrave Bates; brothers, Ernest Douglas Bates and D. Lyn Bates; and sisters, Ina Beth Youngstrom, Erna Louise Thornock, Theola Lorea Haight, Dorothy DeLayne Galbraith, LeOra Hope Richards, Karen D. Bates, Anne LaDeanne Bates.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Seybold of Alabama; daughter, Adriana and son-in-law Scott Grigsby of Alaska; her grandchildren, Dustin Seybold, Ruth Johnston and Nicki Seybold; and great grandchildren, Jackie Garcia, Angel Hawkins and Randy Seybold, Kathrine and Nathan Johnston; three great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
