Michael Francis Jones was born on Sept. 4, 1951, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Charles Howard Jones and Mildred Beatrice Brooks Jones. He was the seventh of 13 children. Michael attended De La Salle High School in Chicago before graduating from Christian Fenger High School in 1969.

Michael joined the United States Air Force in 1977 and attended Basic Training in San Antonio, Texas. While serving in the Air Force, Michael received training as a Medical Lab Specialist. He was honorably discharged in April 1985 as a Staff Sergeant. Michael moved to Alaska in the spring of 1982.

After his military service, Michael worked extensively in the medical community of Anchorage, Alaska, for over 25 years. Michael worked as a Lab Tech at First Care, a Medical Assistant at Primary Care Associates and later as an Occupational Safety Specialist for Beacon Occupational Health and Safety Services. Michael also worked at Alaska Psychiatric Institute and assisted in the establishing of Dynacare Laboratories, both in Anchorage.

Michael was called home the morning of Sept. 28, 2021: 24 days after his 70th birthday. This great man leaves behind a legacy of hard work, sacrifice and love. Michael was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Howard Jones and Mildred Beatrice (Brooks) Jones; sisters, Gloria Jean Banks and Laverne Bell; and brother, Ernest Jones.

Michael leaves behind to cherish his memory beloved wife of 18 years, Bonnie Jones; daughter, Michelle Frances Jones; sons, Michael Dion Jones and Corey Andre Jones of Charlotte, N.C.; stepchildren, Mchawi Herrington, Hasaan Herrington (Mekesha) and Ayeesha Hankins (Gregory) of Baltimore, Md.; brothers; sisters; a host of devoted grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, at Kehl's Legacy Funeral Home, 11621 Old Seward Highway, Anchorage, AK 99515. To honor the wishes of Michael's family this service will be for the immediate family and those by invite only. Livestream will be available via the legacyalaska.com website. An additional service will be held in Chicago later this month. Michael's final resting place will be Mount Hope Cemetery in Chicago.
