Kathy Hoosier passed away, surrounded by family, on Oct. 9, 2021 at Providence Alaska Medical Center after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Her life began on Oct. 3, 1949 in Pittsburgh, Pa. as the oldest of four children of John and Mary Glaister. She moved with the family to Southern California where she graduated from Mary Star of the Sea High School in 1967. While still there, Kathy met the love of her life, Tom Hoosier, and they were married in 1972 in Cleveland, Ohio. Kathy came to Alaska in 1977 and worked a challenging career with the State of Alaska Dept. of Labor. She retired in 2010 to spend time traveling and, most importantly, to spend time with her grandson Rhys Hoosier.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, John, and Mary Glaister.
Kathy is survived by a large, loving, family including her husband, Tom Hoosier; and her sons, Eric Hoosier (Laura) and Patrick Hoosier (Ann Schwed). Kathy is also survived by her siblings, John Glaister (Judy), Daniel Glaister (Kathy) and Patricia Jenkins (Jim); "Adopted" children Christopher and Lynn Glover and Steven Stich and their families; nephews, Timothy Glaister (Emma), Ryan Jenkins (Keri Parsons), Drew Glaister (Shellie), Kieran Glaister (Carlie) and Wesley Glaister and their families; nieces, Jeanne Dewberry (Renae), Rachel Goertz (Brad), Katie Glaister, Donnalyn Zarzeczny (Craig), Jessica Hoosier and their families; grandchildren, Evan, Grace, Ethan and Rhys Hoosier; and many, many close friends.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Oct. 16, 2021 at 3441 Kachemak Cir. in Anchorage from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the AWAIC Women's Shelter in Anchorage.
