Martin Mobley

Jul 15, 1970 -

Jan 17, 2022

Longtime Alaska resident and motorsports legend Martin Lee Mobley, age 51, passed away on Jan. 17, 2022, with loved ones by his side.

A celebration of life will be held on Feb. 27, 2022, at the Elks Lodge, 2600 North Barrys Resort Drive in Wasilla, Alaska, at 2 p.m.

Marty was born on July 15, 1970, in Jerome, Idaho, to Linda and Gene Mobley. He attended school in Jerome; Darby, Mont.; and Palmer, Alaska. His family moved to Alaska, in 1981, where Marty and his brothers found their passion for the outdoors. If snowboarding Hatcher Pass sounded better then class, then that's where you'd find the Mobley brothers with 10 friends in tow. Marty's love for that area of Alaska only grew stronger over the years and he became a pioneer for snowmachining the mountains of Hatcher Pass.

In the early 90s, Marty started working at Hartley Motors with his first wife, Alice. They welcomed two sons, Michael and Austin, in their 15 years together and remained good friends through the years. While working in the motorsports industry, Marty's passion for racing was ignited, taking him to racing events all over Alaska and the Lower 48. He was a fierce competitor and respected by all who raced against him. Many trophies and titles followed and, in 2004, Marty started his own business, AK Sleds & Cycles, so he and his sons could continue to build his legacy.

In 2009, Marty reconnected and married his high school sweetheart, Kaela. In 2013, they fulfilled Marty's lifelong dream and moved to the base of Hatcher Pass. Marty enjoyed being outside, surrounded by nature and the quiet life of living at the Pass. When not hard at work, Marty enjoyed home projects, always building or creating something fun around the property for the family to enjoy.

Marty had an adventurous spirit, jet skiing Prince William Sound, racing motocross and riding his snowmachines in the deepest "pow." It was that passion for riding the mountains that never faded. Ever the kid at heart, if it was a "blue bird" day, you knew you could find him back in the Pass, ripping through the mountains with his lifelong friends, sons and brothers.

Marty is survived by his wife, Kaela; sons, Michael and Austin; daughters-in-law, Taylor and Megan; three grandchildren, Clare, Emma and Caden; mother, Linda; father, Gene; brothers, Rick, Matt, Mark; and many nieces, nephews and extended family still living in Idaho and around the country.

Please join us at the Elks Lodge on Feb. 27, 2022, as we Celebrate the Life of Marty Mobley!

Flowers are welcome – but he'd rather you plant a tree.
