Florence Talhemuk Mosquito Pennington, age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 7, 2020, at Alaska Regional Hospital. Florence was born to Mary Ann and Fred Mosquito on Aug. 29, 1928, in Mary's Igloo, Alaska.
Florence had a kind and loving heart from a young age. She had aspirations to attend nursing school. Florence met her husband Earl "Penney" Pennington in Anchorage, Alaska. They were married for 42 years before his passing. Penney and Florence enjoyed camping, cooking and traveling the state with their children. Florence always had room in her heart and at her kitchen table for anyone. Her infectious smile imprinted on all who knew her.
Florence was a skilled angler, an avid berry picker and a devoted member of the Alaska Native Lutheran Church. She loved sharing her passions with her family. Florence also crocheted beautiful afghans for so many. A favorite pastime of hers was going to bingo, especially with her son, Don.
She is survived by her children, Jim of Port Lions, Gary of Anchorage, Don of Anchorage and John of Seattle; grandchildren, Sarah, Jennifer, Jordan, Matthew, Lisa, Donald, Fred, Darrian, Serenity, Taylor, Dakota and Lacey; great-grandchildren, Hannah, McKinley, Tina, Chloe, Ava, Loren, Daren, Arianna, Kashous, Greyson, Aurora, Aaren and Baren; sisters, Irene Mosquito and Lucille Mosquito Whisenant; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Penney; parents, Mary Ann and Fred Mosquito; son, Fred Pennington; eight brothers; and seven sisters.
Services for Florence will be at Central Lutheran Church on Friday, March 13, 2020, at 3 p.m. Visitation is at 2 p.m. A Celebration of Life potluck will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed to Alaska Native Lutheran Church, 1420 Cordova Street, Anchorage, AK 99501.
