James Bailey Egan, born to James Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Egan in Long Beach, Calif., Oct. 19, 1937, returned to his Heavenly Father on May 12, 2022.
He earned a degree in accounting from San Jose State and was later drafted into the Army to Alaska in 1961. He served for two years, where he met Peggy, his wife of 59 years. He returned to Alaska in 1971, and eventually went into private practice as a CPA.
He was a member of St. Anthony's and St. Patrick's parishes in Anchorage for 51 years. Jim served on many community boards and parish committees. He was a beloved softball coach and team dad, helping establish girls softball as an official high school sport in Anchorage. Jim was a sports enthusiast. He loved to travel and play cards.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Margaret "Peggy" L. Egan; beloved children, Shannon Battles (Bob) of Kent, Wash., Kathleen Rzeszut (Andy) of Anchorage, Sean of Anchorage, Jennifer Grantier (Ed) of Anchorage, James (Vivian) of Anchorage and Stephanie Dempsey (Chris) of Livermore, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Mary Dean Smith (Dick) of Portland, Ore.; brother, John (Shirley) of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and brother, Kevin (Lahne) of Whittier, Calif. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mary Egan of Long Beach.
We thank our Lord Jesus Christ, our Blessed Mother, Saint Joseph and all the Saints of Heaven who filled Jim with peace and comfort on his long journey from birth to heaven.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jim's name to Saint Patrick's Parish Cloister; Nunaka Valley Little League Girls Softball; East High Girls Softball; Ecogenesis (Phillipines) through the Global Institute for Transformation - please ask the family for details.
A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 2 p.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 2111 Muldoon Road in Anchorage with a reception immediately following at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 825 Klevin Street in Anchorage.
