Aug 27, 2022
Jack Randall "Randy" Harris, age 64, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 27, 2022, peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughters. He was born on Oct. 9, 1957, in Anchorage, Alaska, to Jack and Glenda Harris. He often joked that he could not become the U.S. President because he was born in Alaska before it became a state. He was a graduate of East Anchorage High School, class of 1976. On March 17, 1990, he married his longtime friend and love, Sheila Cragen.
Randy was a devoted husband and father. Family was the most important part of Randy's life. Randy was known for his straightforward approach, and there was never a doubt about his opinion. He was a resourceful problem solver with a vast knowledge of racecars whose generosity impacted generations of racers. Drag racing was a lifetime passion for Randy, and he was looking forward to an upcoming 50-year milestone of Harris Brother's Racing, including 42 years of racing "The Legendary Glacier Shaker" funny car. Randy was a friend to anyone he met, including those brought into his life through his years working at his parent's store, Government Hill Auto, and his last 19 years as the Alaska Branch Manager for Rain for Rent.
Randy was preceded in death by his father; mother; and older brother, Steve. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years, Sheila; daughters, Jackie (Grant) Lyons, who are expecting their first child in January 2023, and Katie Harris; siblings, Judy (Mark) Greenough, Kelly (Randy) Huffman, Tracy Harris and Tony (Jodi) Harris; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and incredibly special friends too numerous to list. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. Family and friends will forever be grateful to the Providence Hospital ER and ICU staff for their care and compassion.
On Oct. 9, 2022, please join the family at Bayshore Clubhouse anytime between 2-6 p.m. as we remember and celebrate his life. Next summer, Randy's ashes will be scattered at Alaska Raceway Park.
