Lennis J. Stephensen passed away peacefully in her home in Palmer, Alaska, on Sept. 16, 2022, surrounded by her family.
She was born on Jan. 28, 1941, in Millville, Utah, to Eunice Newbold Jones and Jesse Lewis Jones. She grew up and attended schools in Ogden, Utah. She graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1959 as valedictorian. She then attended Weber State University and Utah State University and graduated with degrees in English and physical education.
She married Wells M. Stephensen on June 30, 1961, in Ogden. Their marriage was later solemnized in the logan temple. They began their life together in Benson, Utah. She taught English, PE, special education and was the drill team instructor at both Davis High School and Intermountain Indian School in Brigham, Utah.
She moved to Alaska in 1985, and was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed working with the youth as a young women's leader, Sunday school teacher and was also Relief Society President. She loved music and singing and was a chorister and master violinist.
She loved and was especially good at gardening. Her yard was her paradise and it showed! She also enjoyed reading, camping, traveling and exploring.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wells Maughan Stephensen; son, Shawn (Christine) Stephensen; daughter, Kari (Paul) Higley; sister, Maureen (Glen) Davies; brother, Randy (Donna) Jones; grandchildren, Jed, Josi, Dillon, Addison and Gage; and great-grandchildren, PJ, Ray and Levi. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Karla (David) Holt
Funeral services with be under the direction of Kehl's Palmer Legacy Funeral Home on Sept. 30, 2022. A viewing will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Lazy Mountain Ward, 560 Bogart Road in Palmer. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the same location. The funeral will also be broadcast through Zoom at https://us04web.zoom.us/j/2938487892?pwd=SFpDQkRzdmVmMitXS1hMbCsvREhZQT09. A luncheon will follow.
