Sep 26, 2022

Michael Dominic "Nick" Yagashoff, 42 years old, passed away on Sept. 26, 2022, at Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska

Celebration of Life was held on Oct. 8, 2022, from 1-4 p.m., at the American Legion Post 28, 7001 Brayton Drive in Anchorage. Pastor Matts did a short prayer and a few guests shared memories of Nick.

Nick was born on July 21, 1980, in Anchorage, and resided there the remainder of his life. He attended East Anchorage High School, graduating in 1998.

Nick loved to fish. It was his peace and quiet to reflect on life and to "catch the big one." If and when he caught the big one, his mother would send some to his grandmother who lived in Florida. Her husband would have a fish fry for Knights of Columbus, and brag that the salmon was fresh out of the Pacific Ocean two days ago!

His second love was cooking, which he got from his mother. This would become the next step in his life. He had the opportunity to work in two very fine restaurants, the Glacier Brewhouse for about 10 years and Ginger for about five to six years. Ginger restaurant used to let the cooks create a dish, let the others taste it and get put on the menu for about a week if was good enough. He also did stints as bouncer at the Anchor Bar and the Avenue Bar.

He is known for his kind words of support and his big bear hugs, and everyone felt better knowing he was around.

He is survived by his aunt, Dionne Kyler of Anchorage; uncle, Myron Young of West Virginia; and cousins, Dwayne Young and family, William Young and family, and Francine D. and Paris (Misty Marie) Young of Soldotna, Alaska.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Lynnette Kyler; father, Steven Yagashoff; grandfather, Melvin R. Kyler Jr. of Anchorage; grandmother, Emma Valcour Allen of Pensacola, Fla.; aunt, Brenda Kyler of Seattle, Wash.; aunt, Paris Young of Soldotna; and grandmother, Mattie Johnson of Soldotna.
