Gary Hendricks
Dec 2, 1935 -
Oct 22, 2022
Gary L. Hendricks passed away on Oct. 22, 2022, due to advanced Alzheimer's. Gary was born in 1935, in Oakland, Calif., and served in the U.S. Navy from March 1953 to August 1955.
In 1961, he married Kaye, his wife of 61 years. They were blessed with two children, son Bruce and daughter Marcie. Gary and Kaye moved their family from California to Alaska in 1978, and made their home in the Butte.
A gentle and loving soul, Gary never spoke unkindly of anyone.
Gary was a man of many talents. He could fix, build and remodel anything. He remodeled five houses before flipping houses was popular. As an artist, Gary's knack for detail was always evident in his creations. He was active in a porcelain painting group and enjoyed creating unique and detailed stained-glass pieces. His art won awards at the Alaska State Fair for many years.
Gary was an avid photographer. Long before digital photography, Gary had his own darkroom and shared his passion with his kids. As digital photography evolved, he would study the latest technology to ensure he had the best camera to capture the greatest images. Gary could always be found at his grandkids' events with a camera.
Gary is survived by his wife, Kaye of Palmer, Alaska; son, Bruce (Deb) of Fredricksburg, Va.; daughter, Marcie Obremski (Mike) and grandkids, Maclaren Obremski and Kyle Obremski of Wasilla, Alaska.
The family expresses their sincerest gratitude to Paulette and the Sunrise Manor team for their excellent care and kindness. A big thank you to the Mat-Su Care Coordination Team - Erin and Alyssa - at Alzheimer's Resource of Alaska. They provided critical support to the family.
At his request, there will be no service. Valley Funeral Home provided cremation services and Gary's ashes will be scattered at Hatcher Pass.
