James Walter Haugom, 76, of Palmer, Alaska, passed away on Nov. 22, 2022, in Anchorage, Alaska.
A service will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Palmer, Alaska, at 1 p.m., on Nov. 29, 2022.
Jim was born on Sept. 26, 1946, to Alvin and Maxine Haugom in Watertown, S.D. He married Patricia Conley on April 12, 1969, in Sioux Falls, S.D. They moved to Alaska in 1971, where he worked for the Frontiersman and then later was employed by Matanuska Telephone Association. He retired from MTA in 2006. After retirement he enjoyed gardening, wood working, being a grandpa and spending time with his family. "Jim was known as our MacGyver, won multiple City of Palmer beautification awards for his yard, could say 'whatever like that' five times in one sentence, was the very best micromanager, never met a stranger and loved being on any boat."
He is survived by his wife Patty of 53 years; children, Charlie, Becky Fish (Brian and grandchildren, Darren, Kiley and Dillon), Chris (Randee and grandchildren, Cameron (Anna), Hannah and Aimmee and great-grandson, Connor), Greg (Brina and grandchildren, Hatcher and Bodey), Shawn (Charleen and grandchildren, Kayzon and Maxton), and Katie Aro (Blake and grandchildren, Reese and Chloe). He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Maxine Haugom.
The family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Kids Kupboard, in lieu of flowers.
