Dixie Boyd

Dixie (O'Neill) Boyd was born on July 8, 1947, in Anchorage, Alaska. She passed away on Dec. 16, 2022, in Anchorage, after a long illness with her respiratory system.

Dixie was first married, in 1967, to Peter T. Gallagher, and a year later her son Peter T. Gallagher Jr. was born. Her husband at the time was inducted into the Army after graduation from college. He and his family were sent to Belgium for three years. Dixie spent her time exploring Europe, riding horses - her passion - and raising their son. Upon returning to Alaska, she earned a bachelor's degree in education and started teaching for the Anchorage School District as an elementary school teacher. In 1977, the marriage ended in divorce. Dixie met Gary Boyd in 1978, at a Parents without Partners (PWP) Valentine's Dance. In July of the same year, they met up again at a PWP party and started dating for four years, and then got married in 1982. Dixies passions were gardening, cooking and spending time at our cabin and lake property.

Dixie is survived by her son, Peter Gallagher of Alabama; and three stepchildren, Sean Boyd, Larissa Boyd and Jeremy Boyd, all of Washington. Dixie is preceded in death by her parents, Basil and Janet O'Neill; brother, Basil O'Neill Jr.; and sister, Kathleen Kintz.
