Patricia Ann Marvin passed away peacefully on Dec. 10, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born on March 4, 1944, in Angoon, Alaska, to Robert Sr. and Lucy Jamestown (Nelson). At a very young age she left her hometown to attend Mount Edgecumbe High School. After graduating she went to Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kan., where she obtained a certificate in business.
On June 5, 1964, Patricia married the love of her life, Lawrence Marvin, in Juneau, Alaska. They had three children. In November 1972, they moved their young family to Anchorage, Alaska. Patricia worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in the enrollment office after the Alaska Land Claims Settlement Act was signed into law. After completion of enrollment, she was employed by Indian Health Service where she worked until her retirement. She was involved with Tlingit and Haida Tribes of Anchorage, where she served as a Treasurer, Delegate and served on the Judiciary Committee. Pat was also a member of the Tlingit and Haida Dance group. She was proud of her heritage and passionate about teaching her children and grandchildren our rich culture.
She enjoyed traveling, camping, combat fishing on the Russian River, dipnetting and digging for razor clams. Her hobbies included beading, crocheting and knitting. A local shop owner gave her the nickname The Mad Hatter. She was a UAA basketball fan and a Rebounders booster club member for many years.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Verna, Robert Jr., Ruth, Eli, Norman and Alfred. Patricia is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Lawrence; daughter, Laurie and son-in-law Patrick Lamp; son, Bobby Marvin; daughter, Linda Marvin; grandchildren, Krista and Chris McDonald, Vanessa Rose, Brittany and Scottie Stepp, Jesse Stutzke and Alecia and Brady Freeman; great-grandsons, Eli, Isaac, Joshua, Jacob and Gabriel McDonald and Charlie Heinsohn; sisters, Connie Vierthaler and Roberta Jamestown; and adopted daughter, Rhonda Lamp. She had a very large extended family. She was very kind, generous and loved by many.
A memorial service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel on Jan. 7, 2023, at 2 p.m.
