Lena McKinney, 72, passed on Dec. 27, 2022, at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna, Alaska, with her family at her side.

She was born on Oct. 29, 1950, to Alec and Zenia Kolyaha at Kanakanak Hospital in Dillingham, Alaska. She was raised in Pedro Bay, Alaska, attended Pedro Bay Elementary, graduated from Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka, Alaska, and attended beautician school and the Career Academy in Anchorage.

She leaves behind husband, Mike McKinney; Amanda and Ingrid Hobson; Steven and Shawn Mckinney; Michael Miyasato; granddaughters, Avril, Michaela and Leilani; great-grandson, Eldgen; sister, Verna Kolyaha; aunt, Edna Shugak; uncle, John Foss; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alec and Zenia Kolyaha; and sisters, Pauline Roehl, Victoria Kolyaha and Viola Golia.

Pallbearers are: Michael Sonju, Steven and Shawn McKinney, George Guilles, Justin Maynard and Lee Eleshansky. Service for Lena will be held on Jan. 9, 2023, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel, 5839 Kenai Spur Highway in Soldotna, with visitation from 12- 12:30 p.m., and the service at 12;30 p.m.
