Fabiana "Carmela" Carmen Wanner, born on Jan. 20, 1938, in Chihuahua, Chihuahua Mexico, left this world to be with The Lord Jesus Christ on Dec. 23, 2022. She was visited and surrounded by friends and family until she passed peacefully at home. She met the love of her life, Dale Forest Wanner, in 1958 and married him three weeks later. Mom and Dad were a good example in raising their five girls with hard work and integrity. They were always actively involved in their family activities, PTA, camping, coaching, Girl Scouts, Girls Club, chaperoning and many slumber parties. Their marriage lasted 56 years before Dale's journey home on Dec. 5, 2014.
Carmela was a devout Catholic loving and living life to the fullest! The smile and joy on her face showed her devotion to God, family, community and especially her love for the United States of America. Carmela never met a stranger nor an opportunity to tell others about the many blessings in her life. She generously shared those blessings by supporting many charities in Alaska and Mexico, hosting women's bible studies, supporting the Republican party and housing missionaries.
Carmela's home was always open. She always remembered your birthday and made time to visit and prepare her famous Mexican dinners. Our mother loved gardening and traveling. She always had her bags packed ready to travel wherever her daughters Sandy, Bonnie or Tammy took her. She enjoyed many trips throughout Mexico, Hawaii, and the United States visiting grandchildren, family and friends.
Our mother is survived by her five daughters, Sandra Wanner (Bill Fallacaro), Cindy (Randy) Wanner-Hoffbeck, Bonnie (Adam) Wanner Owen, Tammy Wanner (Jeffry Groves) and Katrina (Clinton) Peck; 13 grandchildren, Sean (Shannon), Ian (Esther) and Shane Hoffbeck, Connor (Christina), Dale (Kelly), Forest (Liza), Wyatt and Harrison Owen, Hayden (Emma) and Jared (Mattie) Brown, and Megan (Aaron) Rice, Kira (Ryan) Judd and Caleb (Morgan) Peck; and 10 great-grandchildren, along with twins on the way.
Carmela's funeral service will be held at St. Patrick's Parish, 2111 Muldoon Road in Anchorage, on Jan. 9, 2023, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society, 3851 Piper St U240, Anchorage, AK 99508.
