Dec 25, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our beautiful daughter and sister, Marilyn Sue (Chatari) Derrer from an unexpected illness. Sue was born in La Rochelle, France, on Dec. 13, 1953, the first of seven children born to Shirley Ann (Niemeth) Chatari and Paul Chatari. She was 69.
Sue spent the majority of her young adulthood in Alaska, where her father served in the United States Army and retired. She graduated from East Anchorage High School. After a few semesters at Arizona State University, she returned to Anchorage, Alaska, and worked as a civilian at Elmendorf Air Force Base, loving all the excitement of the fighter pilots flying from the hanger where she was stationed. She worked in Alaska's Prudhoe Bay oil field for ARCO Alaska from 1981 to 1990. She became an avid golfer and retired in Palm Desert, Calif.
Although Sue was taken from us way too soon, we find solace in the hope that she is with her mother, who also left this life at a too-young age. We had so many more laughs to share, adventures to go on and conversations to have. Her heartbroken family will never forget Sue's signature Farrah Fawcett- look-alike beauty.
She is survived, and will be terribly missed by, her family in Alaska and California: father, Paul Chatari; sisters, Kris Chatari (Jessica, Kirsten, Shane Sanchez), Paula Okun and husband Fred, Linda Chatari Wamsganz (Jenna, Scott) and Janet Tichnell and husband Jerry (Alexandra); and brothers, Paul S. Chatari (Ryan) and Mark Chatari. She is predeceased by her mother, Shirley.
Cremation services were provided by the Neptune Society of San Bernardino/Riverside Counties. Separate celebrations of life will be planned in both a Palm Desert and an Anchorage location, to be announced at a later date.
