Lynne Santos

Sep 30, 1944 -

Apr 19, 2023

Lynne (Lyda) Newhouse Santos set sail for her next adventure on April 19, 2023. Lynne's home was always full of family and friends, her hospitality difficult to overstate. In her final days, laughter and the scent of home cooking filled the home as we took turns seeking an audience with our Irish Queen, sitting or laying next to her, caressing her hand as we spoke of our love and our thanks.

Lynne is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 30 years, Marlon Santos; children, Molly (Dennis) Large, Marti (Steven) Dean, Cregan (Russann) Newhouse, Tyna Antonson, Khris Santos (Katie); foster children, Nick (Sae) Malino and "adopted" daughter Kara Cornum; sisters, Kathy (Roger) Willis and Marti (David) Wilson; brothers, Byron, Robert (Lee) and Will Barnes; grandsons, Antonio and Carlos Dean, Jonah and Reece Newhouse, Cregan and Ian Antonson; niece, Mischa (Peter) Shattuck; nephews, Jim Willis and Michael (Jenny) Willis; and close extended family, Ellen and Steve Weaver, Mike Ebenal, Mehl and Tony Stanley, and Bev Mydland.

Lynne was preceded in death by parents, James and Kathleen Cregan; and foster parents, Becky and Herbert Barnes.

Lynne and Marlon recently completed a 30-year endeavor to bring the amazing Santos family to Alaska: Mother Lourdes and brother Jon (Dina) family; sister, Marilou (Norman) Bautista; brother, Marcos (Rachel) family; and sister, Mable.

Lynne was raised in Seattle and moved to Sunnyside, Wash., with her husband, Wayne Newhouse (deceased). They farmed hops, grapes and had an orchard in the valley. They were surrounded by a huge family with many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Lynne was an active community member, serving with NOVELLA, the Hospital Auxiliary, Valley Memorial Hospital and the Family Violence Resource Center. Lynne was the first woman elected into Sunnyside Rotary.

Lynne opened and managed Flying Dutchman Travel Agency with her sister-in-law and fellow traveling heroine, Donna. Lynne moved to Dutch Harbor in the early 90s, where she met Marlon. In 1993, they relocated to King Salmon, beginning a career with the federal government, retiring in Anchorage from U.S. Fish and Wildlife in 2018.

Marlon and Lynne have traveled not quite everywhere, and especially loved the Philippines. Celebrations of life in Alaska are ongoing, with one in Eastern Washington TBA.
