Frank James Jasper III
Sept 2, 1934 -
Apr 16, 2020
Frank Jasper, 85, passed peacefully from this life on April 16, 2020, with family at his side. He was able to remain in his home, in front of the very window he had hoped to be looking out of when he died, which was a wish he had expressed more than 20 years ago.
Frank served in the U.S. Army, and graduated from the University of Moscow in mathematics, with a minor in physics. He became a computer programmer for Boeing, where he met his wife, Patricia, who also worked as a computer programmer. They were married in 1962 and moved from Seattle, Wash., to New Jersey, working in New York City. In 1964, he rather spontaneously suggested moving to Alaska. He assured his wife that it was safe since "they've had the big earthquake." Though the plan had been to come for a year - at least that's what Mom thought - they stayed in Alaska the remainder of their lives.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting with his lifelong friends, Ralph and Andrew, and puttering around the yard. As an adult, he learned to play the piano. He loved recounting how they had gone to the hardware store to buy seeds and ended up buying a dusty piano that was tucked at the back of the store. He loved listening to classical music late into the night and he loved ice cream. He had especially fond memories of duck hunting as a young boy. His family went to the duck swamp every weekend of the open season.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; sister, Patricia Dean; daughter, Linda Carol; and grandson, Frank Jasper.
Frank is survived by his brother, Terry; children, Curtis, Carstens, Cary, Karen and Allison; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.
There will be a virtual memorial service on Sunday, May 3, 2020, at 2 p.m. The service is available for viewing at https://youtu.be/2CmMggyhzzY.
