Sep 18, 2023

David Wayne Murray, 56, of Eagle River, Alaska, passed away on Sept. 18, 2023, at home. A service will be held at Riverside Community Church on Sept. 28, 2023, at 5 p.m., with a Celebration of Life to immediately follow at the Eagle River Lions Club at 6 p.m. Pastor Ed Gardner of Riverside Community Church is officiating. David was born in Edmond, Okla., to Donald Eldon Murray and Patricia Carol Smith on April 6, 1967. The family moved to Alaska in 1977. He graduated Bartlett High School in 1985. Dave worked for Cal Worthington Ford in a variety of positions, including Used Car Manager for 20 years, taking a five-year break to care for his sons, one of whom was born at 24 weeks. He returned to work for Kendall Ford where he served as the Manager of Reconditioning for an additional 14 years. He was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast who enjoyed riding and building motorcycles. Dave not only built cycles, but also built his own cabin in Petersville, Alaska, with the help of good friends. He supported his sons throughout their high school sports and scouting, both boys earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He mentored many of his children's friends, serving as an Alaska Military Youth Academy volunteer. Dave met the love of his life, Lourdes Rivera, in 1999. She moved back to Alaska while serving in the Air Force and they married in 2001. Dave was a dedicated stepfather to Nicole and Shane and enthusiastically welcomed his two sons Eldon, in 2002, and David, in 2004. Dave is preceded in death by his father, Donald Murray. Dave is survived by his wife, Lourdes Rivera of Colorado Springs, Colo.; children, Nicole and Shane Poole and his boys, Eldon and David Murray of Eagle River; grandchildren, Anastasia Massey of San Tan Valley, Ariz., Hannah Berkheimer and Logan Poole of Wasilla, Alaska; mother, Patricia Murray; brother, Harold Murray; and sister, Patty Murray. Condolences may be left in David Murray's online guestbook at www.legacyalaska.com. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Providence Hospice, family and friends from all over the world who sent amazing gifts and cards. Much love and gratitude go to Dave's brother, Harold Murray, and his close friends, Juan and Tressey Huron, who put their own needs on hold and stayed in Alaska for over three months completing Dave's "Honey Do List." Dave worked hard and loved deeply.
