Obituary

Joshua Rees

Dec 22, 1982 -

Jan 5, 2024

Joshua passed away on Jan. 5, 2024, in Eagle River, Alaska, at the age of 41. He was a lifelong Alaskan, born at Providence Hospital in Anchorage.

He was treasured by his family and friends and he in turn was a devoted son, brother, cousin, uncle and a kind and generous friend.

He leaves his parents, Betsy and Dave Rees; sister, Jennifer Rees-Benyo (Joe); and brothers, Michael Rees (Laura) and Christopher Rees; as well as his nieces, Alex Huff (Will) and Addie Holtan (Mac); and nephew, Michael Rees-Benyo (Alanna). He served as a surrogate uncle and often as a supervising parent for his many friends when they needed additional adult oversight.

Joshua grew up in Eagle River with many friends. He graduated from Chugiak High School and attended University of Alaska Anchorage. Like many young Alaskans, Josh collected sporting guns but was not a hunter, and had an amazing collection of guitars. His work life included aviation support jobs, but his favorite area was in health services, with study reflecting his many years of battling health issues starting with fibromyalgia as a 5-year old. His own struggles and intellect gave him the skills to be empathetic to many including ailing adults and children

Rest in Peace, Joshua; we are glad you are no longer in pain.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Eagle River First Baptist Church, 11149 Old Eagle River Road, on Jan. 27, 2024, at 1 p.m. The services will be followed by food and reception at the church annex.
