Anchorage, Alaska, resident Freddie Sue Lee, 80, peacefully entered heaven on Jan. 14, 2024. Mrs. Lee was born on Nov. 16, 1943, in Princeton, Mo., growing up on a farm. She excelled in school; the first in her family to go to university, attending University of Missouri, where she met her husband Dominic Lee from Hong Kong. She received a B.S. in education and two master's degrees in education and counseling. She worked as a high school English teacher and counselor in Missouri until she moved to Anchorage in July 1977. A homemaker, she actively led women's Bible studies throughout her life. At age 50, she attended Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Mo., earning her master's in theology. A licensed minister, she gave free English lessons to immigrants from Asia. She taught at Far North Bible College, as well as taught licensing courses for the Assemblies of God into her mid-70s. Highly intelligent and loving, Mrs. Lee had a beautiful, gentle spirit. Always eager to help others, she encouraged, counseled and taught numerous people over the years. She inspired others to have a deep passion for God and the Bible.
She is survived by her four children, their spouses and six grandchildren: Chris (Sean) Lee of New Orleans, La.; Amy (Zach) Story and daughter Louisa of Atlanta, Ga.; Benji (Laura) Lee and sons Zeke, Rufus and Monty of New Orleans; and Julie (Darren) Hojnacki and children Willa and Rylan of Anchorage. She is also survived by her brother Eddie's wife, Selma in Turkey; Eddie's children and their families; sister, Mary Jane and husband Jack Smith and their children and families; brother, Michael and wife Vickie Girdner and their children and families; and brother-in-law, John (Echo) Lee and his children and families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Fred and Mary Kathleen Girdner; husband, Dominic Lee; and brother, Eddie Girdner.
A celebration service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at 1 p.m., at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E Street, Anchorage, AK 99501.
