Longtime Anchorage, Alaska, resident Leon Jenkins Sr. died on Jan. 8, 2024, while staying at Providence Hospital in Anchorage.

A Service will be held at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 855 East 20th Avenue in Anchorage, at 12 p.m., with viewing at 11 a.m. A Military Burial Service will take place on June 7, 2024, at the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery at 2 p.m.

Leon Jenkins Sr. was born on Aug. 7, 1935, in Norfolk, Va., to the late Reverend Silver M. and Joanna Jenkins. He was the youngest of seven children, raised in Portsmouth, Va. Leon had a beautiful voice with a life-long love to sing. In his youth, he was a member of a quartet with his older brothers, John, Cleo and Isaac. They were invited to sing at many local churches and traveled all across the state of Virginia. This love of church and song was always a part of him and was shared with all who got to know him.
