Jan 2, 2024

Dwight Edward Johnson, "JR," 56, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away in Bremerton, Wash., on Jan. 2, 2024. He was born in 1967 to Dwight and Helen Johnson, and grew up in Anchorage, Cold Bay and Nikolski, Alaska, with a brief sojourn in Larimore, N.D. Dwight attended and played football at A. J. Dimond High School before joining the Air National Guard. He enjoyed a variety of jobs which included working in environmental groundwater and soil cleanup, framing houses, Assistant Manager for Adak Airfield and Harbormaster for the Port of Adak. Dwight also volunteered as a First Responder/Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter and Alaska Emergency Trauma Technician for many years.

Be strong and courageous depicts Dwight's attitude towards life. Equally proud of being American and his Aleut heritage, Dwight met life's challenges boldly and perseveringly with strength of will, honor and wit. He was fun, smart, an excellent observer and good at leading people; he cared deeply for many who respected and loved him in return. A generous man who didn't allow people's station in life to influence his relationships, Dwight's favorite activities usually involved his family and friends enjoying "cool toys," investigating "cool nature," discussing "cool science" or listening to "cool music" together. He was fond of his pets - cats, dogs, tiny frogs, etc. - liked lakes and oceans, solving blacksmith puzzles, beer and the smell of freshly cut wood.

Dwight was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Arlene Johnson (nee Sovoroff); and stepmother, Dora Marie Johnson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carrie, of almost 20-years; father, Dwight Allen; brothers, Duane, Dean and Daniel; stepsisters, Valerie, Shirley and Katie; son, Joshua and former spouse Marla; nieces, Crystal, Mari and Teah; nephews, Andrew, Nicholas, Xander and Rowin; extended family; and close friends.

A memorial service with a Color Guard ceremony will be held on Jan. 20, 2024, at 11 a.m., at Faith Community Bible Church in Bremerton, and an outdoor memorial service is planned for May 2024 in Anchorage.
