Lifelong Alaska resident Daniel A. Droege, age 58, passed away on Jan. 4, 2024, at his residence in Anchorage, Alaska. A funeral will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wasilla, Alaska, on Feb. 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. Dan was born on Aug. 2, 1965, the ninth of 10 children. Everyone remembers Dan always having a charismatic smile and a fun loving personality. Dan fully lived the Alaskan lifestyle. He loved to fish and hunt and was successful at both.
Attending local schools, he graduated from Service Hanshew in 1983. Dan continued his studies at Magdalen College in Bedford, N.H., Ventura Community College in California and University of Alaska Anchorage.
Dan began his working career as a surveyor in the early 90s, employed by Robert F. Bell & Assoc. Dan helped survey much of the North Slope oil fields for over 25 years. His job title "Party Chief" suited him. Dan was a volunteer member of the Mat-Su Fire Department from 1999-2004.
Also known to many valley residents as the happy, helpful cab driver, Dan drove cab for both Alaska Cab and A Cab.
Dan had a big heart for helping those in need. He was active in Mat-Su Special Olympics events supporting his best buddy Glacier.
Dan will be missed greatly by all whom he touched. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mat-Su Special Olympics.
