Matthew David Dickerson passed away on Nov. 24, 2023, after a hard fought battle with congestive heart failure. He was born on Nov. 30, 1965, in Warren, Pa. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Elisha Dickerson; father, David Dickerson; sister, Angela (Mark) Dickerson-Romick; uncles, Jerry, Jim and Ken Dickerson; aunt, Martha (Jack) King; and many cousins in Texas and Oregon. He was preceded in death by his mother Barbara Sue Jones-Dickerson.
Matt was an avid outdoorsman during his 57 years as an Alaska resident. He loved being in the woods, camping, hunting, fishing, driving four-wheelers and enjoying the company of his dogs, Butch, Sasha, Sweetie and later Belle. He commercial fished for many years with his father and others. He grew up in rural parts of the state - Dillingham, Utqiagvik, Fort Yukon - and Oregon, moving to Kenai, Alaska, for high school. He was a standout wrestler in high school and played other sports. He worked in the oil field services industry for many years, crossing the state from Prudhoe Bay to the Kenai Peninsula working on an oil platform in Cook Inlet. He rescued his cat Alpine from one of those work sites. He finished his career working for CH2M Hill Company on the North Slope. Matt lived and played all over the state, most recently residing in Homer, Alaska. One of his favorite places in Alaska was Kodiak, where he spent time fishing and deer hunting. He had many memorable adventures with Elisha, gold panning, camping, and fishing and shrimping.
The family asks that friends and family donate to their local animal shelter so that other families can enjoy the love and friendship Matt got from his pets.
