Mar 8, 2024

Richard "Lee" Vreeland has passed away at home in Anchorage, Alaska, on March 8, 2024.

Lee was born and raised in Anchorage, love to fish and had few careers before retiring from the Anchorage School District painters union.

In Lee's early years, he love to go to the Ninilchik, Kenai and Anchor River area and camp and fish with family and friends; he was the happiest when he was out fishing and camping. Lee brought his son Wayne, at 1 month old, and girlfriend Dora to opening King Salmon fishing, making sure his son was outdoors enjoying life as he did. Lee began his working career as a young man working a paper route in downtown Anchorage, worked the Fur Rendezvous Carnival, the shooting range on Klatt Road, worked at a local gas station as a gas jockey and lastly began a career, following his father's path, as a painter. Lee worked for the Anchorage School District to an early retirement of 30-plus years and took great pride in all that he had done. He worked in every school throughout the surrounding areas of Anchorage, including Eagle River, Chugach, Wasilla, and Palmer. He loved his job and took great pride in his work.

Lee will be greatly missed.

He is preceded by his parents, Richard and Sheila Vreeland; and brother, Glen Vincent Vreeland. He is survived by his sister, Theresa Boddy (Steve); son, Wayne Vreeland (Chelsea Wright); nephew; and nieces.

There will be a celebration of life at Anchorage Funeral Home & Crematory, 1800 Dare Avenue in Anchorage, on March, 15, 2024, from 3-5 p,m.
