Christopher James Kiana Sr.

Christopher James Kiana Sr., B.A., M.B.A., M.A.-R.D., D.B.A., 80 years old, passed away in Anchorage, Alaska, on April 20, 2024, at the Alaska Native Medical Center. Chris was born on Dec. 24, 1943, in Candle, Alaska.

Chris was a distinguished scholar and received many degrees including Bachelor of Arts, Masters of Business Administration, Master of Arts – Rural Development and Doctorate of Business Administration. In 2017, he received the Apollos University Famous Alumni award. He also served in the United States Navy, where he completed two tours during the Vietnam War. Chris was employed at various jobs during his life. He worked for the trans-Alaska pipeline, the Red Dog Mine and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium.

Chris spent some time living in Colorado, where he met and married his wife, Cleotilde Sarah Kiana.

Chris loved moose hunting, catching grayling, RVing, book writing, flyfishing, firearms reloading, river boating and trail riding on his side-by-side. He was also an avid art collector.

Chris is survived by his wife, Cleotilde Sarah Kiana; sons, Christopher Kiana Jr. of Alaska and Anthony Kiana of Arizona; daughter, Nicole Kiana of Alaska; daughter-in-law, Tiffany Kiana of Arizona; grandsons, Brenden Kiana and Sean Kiana of Alaska; granddaughter, Kayli Kiana of Alaska; sisters, Caroline Bumgardner and Glenna Maulding of Alaska and Emma Kiana of California; and brothers, Bill Kiana and George Kiana of Alaska and Terry Keezer of California.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 11 a.m. with a rosary at 11:30 a.m. and a funeral mass at 12 p.m., at St. Patrick's Parish, 2111 Muldoon Road, Anchorage, AK 99504. Pallbearers will include Brenden Kiana, Chris Kiana, Anthony Kiana and Sean Kiana.

Arrangements were made with Janssen Funeral Homes.
