James Earl "Jimmy" Carter Jr.

Nov 8, 1952 -

May 3, 2024

It is with profound sorrow and boundless love that we announce the passing of James Earl Carter Jr., affectionately known as "Jimmy," at the age of 71. Born to Virginia and James Carter Sr. on Nov. 8, 1952, Jimmy's life began in the heart of Anchorage, Alaska, at the original Providence Hospital.

Jimmy's charisma was magnetic; his presence alone could light up a room. He possessed a rare charm that endeared him to all, making each conversation memorable and every encounter significant. His laughter was infectious, and his ability to connect with people on a genuine level was one of his most cherished attributes.

From the tender age of childhood, Jimmy was known as "Keys Carter," a moniker earned for the ever-present ring of keys he carried - a harbinger of the many paths he would pave. At the young age of 12, he was already teaching his older sister the art of driving the family's Willys Jeep. This passion for all things motorized carved the trajectory of his career, from co-running "The Trading Post" car lot with his father, to being the owner-operator of Alaska Towing and Recovery and, later, as a trusted driver for Anchorage's People Mover.

Jimmy's love for driving wasn't confined to the roads. Summers found him at the helm of a boat, gliding across the tranquil waters at the family cabin on Rocky Lake, towing children on tubes through endless laps and figure eights. Countless summer nights were spent at the cabin around firepits, telling stories and relishing in the company of those who mattered most to him.

In his later years, he cherished nothing more than embarking on weekend camping trips across the breathtaking landscapes of Alaska, accompanied by his beloved wife, Anita, and their treasured four-legged companion, Bella. A dedicated lifetime member of the Sons of AMVETS, he found immense joy in volunteering for cooking duties during their gatherings, enjoying every moment spent among revered friends and veterans.

Jimmy's legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Anita; children, Michael, Joel (Angela), Melissa and Lawren (Chris); stepsons, Forest, Dustin and Cameron (Elizabeth); stepmom, Sue; sisters, Margie (Scott), Kathy and Patsy (Mike); nieces and nephews; and a legacy of 20 beautiful grandchildren.

A celebration of Jimmy's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 2 p.m., at AMVETS Post 49, 9191 Old Seward Highway, Unit 9, in Anchorage.
