Alexandra Phillips was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, to Dagmar Phillips and Christopher John Phillips. She made Alaska her home from age 3 on.
She was an artist first and foremost. Whether through sculpting, pottery, painting or even taxidermy, she had an eclectic vision that was apparent to all who knew her. She earned degrees in fine art and English at University of Alaska Anchorage. Numerous local art exhibitions displayed her unique pieces. The Anchorage Museum purchased one of her puppets.
Her creativity was evident in gardening. As lead gardener for the Alaska Regal Hotel, she won top prize for Anchorage corporate garden design three years running, one of which included use of a new car for a year. She then started her own landscaping business, A Touch of Dirt.
Alexandra loved the city of Anchorage. She worked at beautifying the city she called home with her gardening and by coordinating stringing lights downtown in winter, among other efforts.
She was a world traveler, spending months at a time abroad immersed in other cultures, making friends wherever she went.
Her passing leaves a void. She was fiercely loyal to her friends. Her relationships with others were an integral part of her life. Though many called her their confidant, mentor, best friend or partner in crime, she had a way of letting each know that her relationship with them was special unto itself. She was beautiful in body and spirit, energizing all around her.
She is survived by her husband, Kreg Pressley of Lake Stevens, Wash.; her mother; brother, Robin Nicholas; and stepfather, Stephen Haycox.
There will be a gathering at Anchorage Memorial Park on her birthday, June 4, 2024, at 3 p.m., and a celebration of life at the Kincaid Outdoor Center at 4:30 p.m.
