John Ascott

John William Ascott passed away at home in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday, June 23, 2023. He was 84 years old.

John was born to John W. Ascott and Ethel Stoike on Nov. 16, 1939, in Chicago, Ill. He spent most of his childhood, including attending elementary and high schools, in Roseburg, Ore. He had many fond memories of a one-room schoolhouse that he and his friends referred to as "the old green school."

At 18, John enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served as a radio operator in both the Philippines and Japan. After leaving military service, he married Suzanne Marie De Arment in 1963. They moved to Alaska in 1964.

John spent most of his working career with the Anchorage Municipal Airport. He was an avid reader and animal lover, and never missed the opportunity to try and insert a bad joke into the conversation.

John is survived by his wife, Suzanne; three sons, Ivan, George and Rudy; and two grandsons, Valentin and Rene.
