May 11, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Barbara Bowerman, a cherished mother, devoted teacher and fearless pilot. Destined to touch the lives of many: as a teacher, she dedicated her career to nurturing young minds; Barbara soared to new heights as a pilot and proud member of the 99's; and with an unwavering commitment to the Anchorage community, Barbara was a leader in her voting district for many years. In addition, she participated in establishing the city's sewer system, was a proud member of the League of Women Voters, a leader in establishing stop signs along Forest Park Drive and coordinator of our neighborhood resources after the 1964 earthquake.

Always faithful, Barbara helped establish the First Congregational Church of Anchorage. A member of the vocal choir and handbell group, she always loved being a participant in Grandparent's Day.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, John H. Bowerman; and eldest son, John H. Bowerman Jr. She is survived by her children, Karl L. Bowerman of Puyallup, Wash., Barbara A. Ash of Kennewick, Wash., Pamela B. Wright of Anchorage, Alaska, and Thomas H. Bowerman of Anchorage.

Services to be held at the First Congregational Church of Anchorage, 2610 East Northern Lights Boulevard, on May 25, 2024, at 1 p.m. Reception to follow. May God grant you peace and may her memory be a blessing.
